...the day of reckoning was finally over. One of the most famous groups was performing live and it was doing so this evening...had left me quite agape with anticipation.
we had been hearing quite a lot through out the day, of how crowds have thronged the venue to get a first hand glimpse of the heroes in action. With the news being played again and again on the local FM, we thought of moving least with tickets too we don't get seats. We grouped together in a friends car and moved towards the epicentre of the entire fiasco.
the place was far too lively to describe, in the words of Michalangilo (coutesy, TMNT)..."cowabunga".
the place as usual had been divided into three sections - for dudes with passes, adjoining them the one who could afford expensive tickets and then the crowd who came with the over flowing masses.
we had placed ourselves on strategic locations, knowing too well a surge of adrenalin in crowd would make them too unruly and make them rush forward....if one went the others would follow too...
guess the excitement was too much and soon I found myself to be the sole member, standing in the 4th line from the beginning. With none of my friends nearby I made a desperate ruse to be there where the stage was, where I would get to touch 'Joe Perry' a moment of eternal fame altogether...
was about to take a step forward when a melodious voice touched the tangents of my soul, rocking me altogether from the depths of 'mariana trench' back to solid surface where the common man fought to stay into existence.
turning around i saw a couple fighting, with the girl showing intention of moving forward and the guy staying parked at the place. The back and forth exchange happened thrice between them, and then the girl took the inevitable decision - she left the guys hand...the excitement so much and flow of human beings so strong that the guy was pulled into the man made niche...lost in oblivion.
the girl turned around looking frantically to find solace with the ever increasing crowd pushing the way forward, finding none she was about to loose hope when a smile on my lips brought a glimmer to her face. I offered my hand to her which was graciously accepted, a quick round of introduction made us converse more easily from being complete strangers to becoming friends over just a small talk.
Moving Reena in front of me, we waited for the next surge of human intervention. The last thing i looked at her face was a wink followed by utter delight and before we knew it we were right in front of the stage.
*A sudden blast of air to my right ear tol' me i was at a place where history was being made and i was thinking of cheap pleasure that could have been indulged in any time.*
I joined the fray of chaps doin' head banging and completely forgot bout time and 'her'....guess her excitement was all about being there at the top but of not staying over there, soon the over-zealous crowd enveloped her into the fathoms of in-distinction...and the next time i looked up she was no where to be seen...hard luck! i should say...
...the concert was a gr8 success, nevertheless with the group not playing its old time favourite numbers a good many old timers and ardent fans did show a glum look on their faces, but everyone had a cheerful look on their faces.
Moving my way back to the car, I found my other friends waiting there. Re-grouping together we described to each other the varied memories we seemed to have. The reminiscence, was broken by the same melodious voice that i had seemed to forget in the experience. Turning around i was met by the same face, the expression on her face telling a lot. I very well knew the damage i had done, without any explanation i hung my face to avoid any sharp comments she could have made.
She just gave me a piece of paper, and a quick peck on the cheek and made her way back to her waiting friends; turning once for me to acknowledge i had read what was written on the piece of paper...getting a thoughtful nod from me, she continued. I got my mobile out and gave a missed call on the number given in the paper.
A return call from that number took some days to come....but it did, following it up with a glorious friendship that I still treasure and continue till date....
